Two other varsity soccer teams from the valley opened their 2005 seasons last weekend and will debut their league campaigns this week.

Coach Farrell Swain's Wood River High School boys' varsity dropped a very physical 3-1 decision at Twin Falls Saturday. Carl Jablonski tallied Wood River's goal in the first half.

Wood River (0-1) opens its Great Basin Conference West season at home against the Minico Spartans today, Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at South Valley Sports Complex soccer field in Hailey.

Minico (0-2) lost 2-0 at American Falls Saturday and fell 4-3 at home to Highland Monday. Meanwhile, Twin Falls (1-1) lost at home to Burley by a 2-1 score Monday.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, the Wolverines play Emmett (1-1) at 1 p.m. and McCall-Donnelly (1-1) at 5 p.m. at Sabala Field in McCall. Emmett was a 13-0 winner over Weiser in its debut last weekend, but Emmett lost 2-1 to Kuna Monday.

Coach Kelly Feldman's Community School girls' varsity dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions to McCall and Vallivue of Caldwell at McCall Saturday. "We focused on defense and playing as a team. I was really pleased. We did things we wanted to do," she said.

Hannah Hennessy scored against Vallivue. And the Cutthroats (0-2) had an own goal against McCall.
