When Ernest Hemingway came to Sun Valley in the fall of 1939, he found beautiful country, abundant game, and Idahoans who would become lifelong friends.
Hemingway was an avid bird hunter and trap shooter, a stickler for hunting ethics and gun safety, and a lover of sporting dogs. He especially enjoyed hunting in Idaho with close friends on crisp autumn days.
So, it's fitting that September's first Sun Valley Indian Summer Shootout will celebrate Hemingway's passion for hunting and shooting.
The Sept. 24-25 competition at Sun Valley Gun Club is open to all. There are events for experienced and novice shooters.
Local businesses are encouraged to put together teams for the trap competition. Event coordinators will help put together trap teams for interested individuals if needed.
The Indian Summer Shootout is one part of the three-day Ernest Hemingway Festival Sept. 22-25 in Ketchum.
