Women golfers tour Elkhorn in annual tournament

The 11th annual Sun Valley Women's Golf Invitational "It Happens in Sun Valley" tournament brought 104 players to Elkhorn Golf Club and its new clubhouse Monday.

The winning foursome with the best gross score in Flight A consisted of Judith Hinds and Jan Wygle of Elkhorn Golf Club playing with Georgia Hutchinson and Sue Woodyard of The Valley Club. Their score was 140 gross and 116 net.

Format was one-day 2 best balls of foursome. There were three flights totaling 26 teams, which meant there were 104 players enjoying the day.

Gross stroke winners in Flight B, all Valley Club players, were Julie Dillon of Del Mar CC (Ca.), Gay Emery of Northwood CC (Texas), Jeanne Welch of Vintage CC (Ca.) and Claire Bailey.

And the happy gross-stroke winners in Flight C were Beckie Biedebach of Desert Willow Golf Club (Ca.), Cathy Brown-Wellins of Bermuda Dunes CC (Ca.), Sandy McCullough of Elkhorn Golf Club and Joanne Wetherell of The Valley Club and Blue Lakes CC in Twin Falls.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Janet Petersen of Crane Creek CC on #3, Jeanne Mace of Valley Club and Morningside CC (Ca.) on #6, Marsha Rankin of Elkhorn Golf CC and Blue Lakes CC on #11, and Joanie Feldman of Hillcrest CC on #14.

Co-chairmen of the tournament were Beckie Biedebach and Debbie Exley of Elkhorn Golf Club and Newport Beach CC (Ca.).

Tournament sponsors were Kelly Sports, Ketchum Kitchens, Chateau Drug, Sheepskin Coat Factory and Fur Salon, Chandler's Restaurant, Baci Italian Café Wine Bar, and Jenifer's of Australia Advanced Skin and Body Care.
