Time flies when you're teeing it up.
The Valley Club's member-guest golf tournament is marking its 10th anniversary—and it has become a big draw.
You'll find a good portion of The Valley Club's membership showing up for the tournament highlight—the horse race that determines the winners Saturday starting at 1:45 p.m. And the general public is invited.
The member-guest tournament attracted 144 players on 72 teams last year. This year, practice rounds are held today, Wednesday then the round-robin flighted action for twosomes starts Thursday.
Each twosome plays five nine-hole matches Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning—shotgun starts kicking off the action at 7:30 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. The winning teams from each of 14 flights qualify for Saturday's horse race.
The horse race features alternate-shot play on five holes.
First of all, 14 twosomes and 28 players will show up on the ninth hole. Three teams will be eliminated on the #9 hole, three teams on #10 hole, three on #11 hole and three on the #17 hole.
That will leave just two teams battling it out for the top golf shop prizes on the #18 hole.
Prizes go to the top three finishing teams in each flight.
Last year's grand champions were Ron Fields and Tom Muth. Second place went to Bill Pierpoint and Alan Kessler.
