Ketchum's Richard Feldman continued to roll along Saturday—as persistent as the pesky headwind that challenges cyclists in the Idaho State Time Trial Championships.
Durance Cycleworks rider Feldman (51:52) captured his 14th consecutive Idaho State Time Trial championship by a 1:39 margin on the 40 kilometer (24.8 mile) course along S.H. 20 south of Bellevue. His average speed was 28.87 miles per hour.
Wind was a factor again this year as many of the 39 cyclists claimed that the winds made the championship course much harder. Fortunately, the morning rain cleared just in time for the warm-ups and the racing.
John Swyers of Durance Cycleworks (32:39) was the fastest 20k racer. Patty Puz, also of Durance Cycle (35:01) was the fastest Master Woman in a personal record time.
The out-and-back course started east of the blinking light on S.H. 20 at Timmerman Hill, with the turnaround for the 20k race just before Loving Creek and the turnaround for the 40k bikers just west of Picabo's Susie Q Ranch.
Race sponsors included Durance Cycleworks, Lehman Brothers, Trinity Springs Water and FRS.
