YMCA unwraps plans for celebrity golf

Aug. 6-7 at SV, Elkhorn

Organizers of the 2005 Annual Celebrity Classic have announced plans for this year's fund-raising golf tournament for the Wood River Community YMCA.

The dates are Saturday, Aug. 6 at Sun Valley and Sunday, Aug. 7 at the rejuvenated Elkhorn Golf Course.

On Saturday, cocktails and dinner complete with silent and live auction plus unique celebrity entertainment will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Limelight Room of Sun Valley Inn.

The shotgun start golf tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Elkhorn Golf Course. Cocktails and the awards ceremony will follow.

Event co-chairs are Jamie Everitt, John Miller and Mike Quinn. Event coordinator is Steve DiMarco of Golf on Earth. Sponsorship opportunities are available by calling 727-9622.

Format for the golf is modified two best-ball net of fivesome. Entry deadline for golfers is Aug. 1. A celebrity golfer will play with each foursome, making the teams of five.

Every player will tee off from every hole. The fivesome will choose the best tee shot, and each player will move his or her ball to the location of the best drive. From that point forward, all golfers will play their own ball into the hole using their full handicap. Each team will count the two lowest scores of their group using the full handicap. But, each player must use at least two drives.
