Local cutters clean up at Silver Springs

Productive NCHA weekend at indoor arena

Local cutters cleaned up during a major National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) show Friday through Sunday at Silver Springs Ranch arena south of Bellevue.

Over $25,000 in prize money was paid during the well-attended Idaho Cutting Horse Association-produced event overseen by show manager Kevin Coiner. Organizers were pleased with the youth turnout

High point amateur and recipient of a Lucchesse Boot certificate for $450 was Pam Lumley of Mackay. In addition, circuit awards (monogrammed horse sheets) were given to the highest money winners in each class for two shows over three days.

New this year was a crowd-pleasing "Never Won a Buckle," class for entry-level amateur cutters who haven't won an NCHA trophy buckle. Placing third was local contestant Dolly Thacker.

There will be 12 officially sanctioned NCHA classes ranging from novice/amateur to professional. First places went to Greg Smith, Nancy Enright, Pam Lumley, Kevin Coiner, Hazel Thorne, Lane Hutchings, Erica Dube, Kade Smith, Ashley Smith, Sadie Smith and Catherine Michals.

Businesses responsible for generous added money and circuit awards were Sawtooth Auto, Wells Fargo Bank of Ketchum, Les Schwab Tire Center, Sawtooth Tack & Feed and DryNest Animal Bedding, Sid Erickson DVM, Charlie Cord, Sawtooth Wood Products, Rue de Shoe and Sawtooth Equine Service.
