Golfers go head to head in match play at The Valley Club

The Valley Club in Hailey is the site of the IGA Match Play Championship, June 3-5.

The tournament format is 18-hole stroke play for all participants, which will decide the seeding for the match play portion of the meet.

Each division, men's, women's and senior, will participate in match play similar to the NCAA basketball tournament in which the higher seeds play the lower. Each golfer will play one on one until a division champion is determined.

The men's division features 32 of the top amateurs in the state and the women's and senior division are comprised of eight players each. The par for all three divisions is 72.

Former champions in the field include Tyler McFarland of Rexburg (2004), Marc Rhodes of McCall (2003), Brett Smith of Boise (2002), and 2004 women's champion Jean Smith of Boise.

Local participants include Nils Badenduck, Dave Cropper, Walter Littenberg, Dick Shelton, Shawn Aicher, Carmen Bradley, Tom Brill, Matt Meador, Brett Smith and Jeff Wong.
