2006 U.S. ski teams named

And awards given out


The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association has picked its 2005-06 Alpine, Nordic and Disabled ski teams.

The USSA also revealed its season-ending award recipients during the USSA 2005 Congress and Chairman's Award Dinner May 14 at Park City, Utah.

Ketchum's Elitsa Storey (standup) is on the U.S. Disabled "C" Alpine Women's Team.

U.S. Nordic Team: Kris Freeman of New Hampshire, Andrew Johnson of Vermont, Torin Koos of Leavenworth, Wash., Andy Newell of Vermont and Carl Swenson of Park City.

U.S. Alpine Men's Team: A Team—Bode Miller, Bryon Friedman, Daron Rahlves, Tom Rothrock, Erik Schlopy, Dane Spencer of Boise and Marco Sullivan.

Alpine B Team—Jimmy Cochran, Justin J. Johnson, Chip Knight, T.J. Lanning, Scott Macartney, Jesse Marshall and Paul McDonald. C Team—Chris Beckmann, Roger Brown, Erik Fisher of Eagle, Kevin Francis of Bend, Tim Jitloff, Steve Nyman, Drew Roberts, Jeremy Transue, Andrew Weibrecht and Jake Zamanky.

U.S. Alpine Women's Team: A Team—Kirsten Clark, Lindsey Kildow, Caroline Lalive, Libby Ludlow, Julia Mancuso, Bryna McCarty, Jonna Mendes, Sarah Schleper and Resi Stiegler.

Alpine B Team—Stacey Cook, Jessica Kelley, Kaylin Richardson and Lauren Ross. C Team—Caitlin Ciccone, Katie Hitchcock, Keely Kelleher, Jenny Lathrop, Chelsea Marshall and Julia Littman.

Development Team, men: Mitt Coats, Timothy Kelley, Todd Thibodeau and Stefan Hughes. Women: Kara Crow, Megan McJames, Sterling Grant and Jilyne McDonald.

2004-05 awards

The USSA's highest athlete award, called the Beck International Award, was given to World Cup champion Bode Miller May 14 at Park City. Daron Rahlves earned the Buddy Werner Award for leadership and sportsmanship.

The Park City Education Foundation was named USSA Club of the Year. U.S. Men's Alpine Team coach John McBride of Snowmass was International Coach of the Year. And Northern Michigan University coach Sten Fjeldheim was USSA Domestic Coach of the Year.

The Russell Wilder Award for "outstanding effort" to focus attention on the nation's youth in skiing and snowboarding was presented to Gary Black of Sun Valley, publisher of Ski Racing magazine for nearly 20 years.

Cross Country Club of the Year was the Auburn Ski Club in Soda Springs, Ca. Snowboard Club of the Year was Stratton Mountain (Vt.). The country's top snowboard coach was Peter Foley, U.S. head coach since the program began in 1994.

The Al Merrill Nordic Award honoring outstanding commitment to cross-country skiing was presented to John Aalberg of Park City, a past winner of the Wells Fargo Boulder Mountain Ski Tour.
