Harris sets new pool records

On Spring Fling long courses

SV5B's Amanda Harris, 17, set three new pool records in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle, and 50m butterfly, and snagged four golds in the process this past weekend at the Boise YMCA 2005 Spring Fling Invitational long course meet.

Her SV5B teammate, Racheal McGinnis, 14, also won four golds, and qualified for Northwest Age Group Sectionals in 50 free, along with 15-year-old Natalie Hague.

The meet, which hosted 439 swimmers, is the largest meet of SV5B's year-round schedule.

Teams from as far away as Spokane, Washington and Salt Lake City, Utah, were on hand to boost some age groups up to 40-60 swimmers in each event. The team's individual placings amongst such numbers speak for the talent on the small Wood River Valley team.

With McGinnis and Hague now joining Harris and Ray Bryson for sectionals later this summer, it boasts the most that SV5B has ever sent to Zone competition. Coach Brian Gallagher was proud of his team.

"Almost everyone improved their time in every event they swam," he said. Results were:

Sarah Brown, 12, finished best at 8th in 100 fly, 10th in 50 fly, and 17th in 200 IM.

In the 13-14 age group, Racheal McGinnis clocked her zone qualifying time of 29.17 for first in 50 free. Her other golds came in 100/200 back, plus 100 free 2nd, 200 free 3rd, 400 free, and 4th in 200 IM & 50 fly.

Other 13-14 age best place finishes were: Ashleigh Share, 14, 10th 50 breast, 14th 200 free and 15th 50 fly; Stormy Mataya, 14, 5th 800 free, 12th 50 fly and 14th 100 fly; Melissa Becker, 13, 8th 50 breast, 9th 200 free and 12th 400 free; Esther Williams, 13, 12th 50 breast, 16th 200 IM and 200 Free, and 17th 100 back.

In the Girls Senior competition (ages 15-up), golds for Amanda Harris, 17, came in the 50 fly and free, 100 free and 200 IM, with 3rd 200 and 400 free and 200 back.

Other Senior women best-place finishes were Rachael Becker, 16, 9th 50 breast, 13th 50 back and 14th 200 breast; Natalie Hague, 15, 4th 50 free, 7th 100 free and 8th 200 back; Taylor Straley, 15, 13th 100 breast, 16th 200 IM and 17th 200 free; and Sarah Adicoff, 15, 27th 50 free.

In the Boys Senior competition, Ray Bryson, 16, swam for a best finish of 3rd in 50 back, 5th in 400 IM, 6th in 200 back, and 7th in 50 breast; and Ben Parker, 18, was acknowledged as a graduating senior at the meet, finishing best with 6th in 50 back, 10th in 50 fly, 13th in 100 fly and 14th in 100 back.
