Wet grounds moves Carey rodeo

With lake in arena, cowpokes go to Gooding

There was a lake in Carey last weekend, and it wasn't Carey Lake. It was the wet grounds at Blaine County Fairgrounds rodeo arena where the Fifth District high school rodeo was due to visit May 13-14.

Because of wet arena, the circuit moved to Gooding County Fairgrounds for two rodeos last weekend—and Wood River and Carey cowboys and cowgirls did pretty well.

Carey's Bryan Hill finished second and third in steer wrestling and teamed up with sister Amanda Hill to place third in Friday's team roping event. Fairfield's Kortnee Hurless was second in barrels Friday.

Wood River's Hailey Baugh ended up second in Friday's pole bending, and Carey's Brad Hunt was second in Saturday's bullriding session. In team roping, Kade Smith of Wood River and Jessica Howard of Hammett rode to second Saturday.

In individual event season standings, local leaders are:

Bullriding: 2—Brad Hunt. Polebending: 5—Amanda Hill. Barrel racing: 2—Amanda Hill. Breakaway roping: 4—Amanda Hill. Goat tying: 4—Kortnee Hurless. Team roping: 4—Amanda Hill and Bryan Hill.

When all-around point leaders were tabulated Saturday, Gooding's Cady Mae Coates (197 points) stretched her girls' lead over second-place Amanda Hill (164) after eight rodeos on four weekends this spring.

Rob Webb of Wendell (136 points) stayed in first for boys and Carey's Bryan Hill (88) stayed fourth in the all-around ranks of the Fifth District.

Inadvertently omitted from last week's rodeo results out of Shoshone were the names of Wood River graduating senior Hailey Baugh (8th and 27th barrel racing, 6th pole bending) and Wood River freshman Amy Stoll (13th and 22nd barrel racing, 15th twice in polebending).
