Wood River golfers complete district test

The soggy conditions did not bog down the games of the top golfers at the Class 4A Great Basin Conference meet at Rupert Country Club Tuesday.

The medalist was Zach Dietz of Jerome with a 72 on the par 71 course. Minico's Zach Sanford (73) and Michael Konrad (74) were second and third. Jordan Myers of Century and Zach Spain of Pocatello tied for fourth place. All five golfers qualified for the State 4A Tournament, at Rupert on Monday, May 16.

Three teams also qualified for the boys' state meet: Minico (306), Pocatello (314) and Century (322). Rounding out the field of seven were Jerome (328), Burley (342), Preston (345) and Wood River (391).

Cooper McCroskey was low man for the Wolverines with a 90. Kyle Cole shot a 95, Merritt Baldwin 98 and Conner McNamara 108.

"We finished about were we expected to," coach John Braafladt said. "We're pretty young. Cooper is our oldest guy and he is a junior. We have a lot of growing to do and a lot of improving to do for next season."

Jerome's Christina Paulos and Emily Evans of Pocatello tied for top honors in the girls' competition. Both carded an 86.

Coincidentally, both teams, Jerome and Pocatello, qualified for state as well.

Wood River's Adrianna Maniere finished with a 120 and Carrie Bloom 155.

"They were great all season. Just a pleasure to work with," Braafladt remarked.
