Reynoso stretches hitting streak at Boston College

Albertson's Zachary heads into playoffs

Boston College sophomore outfielder Ryne Reynoso of Hailey extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double to left center during the Eagles' 6-1 loss to the University of Pittsburgh Monday afternoon at Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Reynoso, 20, a 2003 Wood River High School graduate, has boosted his season average well over .300 during a successful recent streak for Boston College (34-16, 15-7 league).

Boston College, which started its season 0-5 in Tennessee, is 10-4 on its recent homestand after beating the University of Massachusetts 8-6 in the Beanpot consolation game April 21 at Fenway Park. Reynoso had an RBI double in that game.

For the season, 6-2, 215-pound lefty swinger and righty thrower Reynoso is batting .317 in 31 games (20 starts) with 82 at-bats, 15 runs scored, 26 hits and 9 RBI. He has 8 doubles, 1 triple and 2 HR along with a .512 slugging percentage. Reynoso, a DH/outfielder, will want to cut down on his strikeouts (23K).

He has also pitched two innings and allowed 4 hits and no runs.

Reynoso is a student in the College of Arts and Sciences at the NCAA Division 1 school. The Eagles have nine days off before resuming May 18 at home against Marist and finishing up the regular season with three games against the University of Connecticut at Storrs May 20-21.

With four games remaining on the 2005 regular-season schedule, the Eagles are one victory shy of matching the school record of 35 wins, set in 2000. Recently, CollegeBaseballInsider.com ranked Boston College second in the Northeast region behind North Carolina-Wilmington.

The Big East Championships are May 26-28 at Bridgewater, N.J.

Meanwhile, Albertson College senior pitcher Matt Zachary, 23, of Bellevue is headed into the NAIA

Region 1 playoffs at Vancouver, B.C., Canada Thursday with his second-seeded Coyote team from Caldwell.

The four-team NAIA Region 1 tournament opens Thursday, May 12 with Albertson (24-23 overall, 17-13 league) playing #3-seeded Oregon Tech (22-23, 16-13) at Nat Bailey Stadium—home field of top-seeded British Columbia (31-19-1, 24-6).

It will be the 19th consecutive post-season appearance for Albertson, which recently won its first Cascade Conference title in three years.

Albertson College is 5-3 this season against Oregon Tech, 2-5 against the University of British Columbia and 3-3 against #4-seeded Concordia University (23-26, 13-15 league). The tournament is double elimination, with the Albertson-Oregon Tech winner facing the UBC-Concordia winner on Friday.

Zachary (5-4, 4.53 ERA in 56 innings with 47 K, 33 BB and a 2.49 opponent batting average) is a 2000 Wood River High School graduate who is wrapping up his third season pitching for the Coyotes.

The 6-4 righthander pitched seven innings and dropped his final regular-season decision 6-5 to Concordia at Portland, Ore. on Sunday, May 8. Later Sunday, Albertson snapped a five-game losing skid and ended the regular season with a 6-5 victory over Western Baptist in Portland. The Coyotes have skidded in the final half of the season, going 7-16 down the homestretch.
