When there's smoke and fire, who do you call? The fire department, of course.
Once again, residents of Ketchum and Sun Valley have an opportunity to thank their firefighters and get to know them while watching them do what they do so well.
The annual Fire Fighters Appreciation Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, in the Festival Field on Sun Valley Road, next to Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church.
The free day of activities and demonstrations is presented by both the Ketchum and Sun Valley fire departments.
"This is a joint venture between the fire departments," said Lara Babalis, Ketchum Fire Department lieutenant. "We'll be doing the friendly firefighter program that we do at the schools so that little kids get used to us in our outfits and are not afraid."
Under a big tent, there will be booths with information from St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center about helmet safety, home safety planning and much more.
Beginning at 11 a.m. there will be a car extraction demonstration; at noon is a technical rescue simulation; at 1:30 p.m. there is a kids' water-ball contest; and at 2:30 p.m. is the highlight, a firefighter tug-of-war competition in the mud.
A free barbecue will offer up tasty treats all day.
