Camas, Richfield take weekly meet

With tough competition, Carey settles for sixth

Depth and 42 points in the field events lifted the Camas County boys to a slim 86-84 win over Bliss Thursday in the weekly Northside Conference track and field meet, at Derrick Parke Memorial Field in Carey.

The outstanding boy was Bliss' Joseph Huxhold, who won the 100-meter dash, 110m high hurdles and 300m intermediate hurdles and started Bliss' winning medley.

Mackay's Wrangler Williams captured the 200m dash, discus and high jump.

On the girls' side of the 11-school meet, the Richfield Tigers parlayed 28 points in the relays and 27 points in the field into an 83-76 victory over the Challis Vikings.

The top girl was Challis' Amanda Robinson, winner of the 100m and 200m dashes and high jump in addition to a second place in triple jump. Camas County's Beth McLam won both hurdles events.

Host Carey School settled for sixth places in both boys' and girls' team standings. Coaches Blaine Tingey and Lane Kirkland tipped their hats to the tough competition and noticed progress in their ranks.

Carey competed without junior sprinting star Brenna Silva, sitting out a week with a hyperextended knee. Coach Kirkland singled out senior Brooke McAfee for mention. "Brooke is coming along well in the hurdles and she helps us in the relays," he said.

Serene Bingham, Carey sophomore prospect, added 18 individual points with a second in the intermediate hurdles, third in triple jump and fourth in high hurdles.

The Northside schools travel to the ISDB track in Gooding for another meet Thursday, April 28 then return to Carey for the Northside Championships on Thursday, May 5.
