United we stand

Lady Panthers win Northside Conference track meet


An all out team effort pushed Carey's Lady Panthers to a first place finish at a Northside Conference track meet at ISDB in Gooding Thursday.

Carey amassed 117.5 points, without a single individual winner on the squad. Panther quartets did claim three out of the four relays, however, and pulled down points for five second place finishes.

Junior Brenna Silva was runner-up in both the 400m run and 100m hurdles. Whitney Peck placed second in the discus with a toss of 76-9, and Bonnie McAfee was second to Camas County's Beth McLam in the 300m hurdles by 2/100ths of a second.

In the team standings, the Lady Panthers outdistanced runner-up Butte County (81 points) by 36.5 points. Shoshone finished third with 78 points. .

Camas County won the 11-team boys' meet with 111 points. Butte County was second with 85 points and Carey third with 79.5.

Sophomore Brad Hunt sprinted to second in the 400m race in 58.7 seconds. Teammate D.J. Simpson, a promising freshman, was third in 58.8.

Another sophomore, Allen Peck, was third in the 800 and 3200 meter runs, and freshman Tyler Parke finished third in the high jump, clearing 5-6.

Carey will host the next Northside Conference tilt at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.
