Sun Valley skier Carl Rixon Jr. posted an eighth place result at the U.S. National Alpine Championships at Mammoth Mountain, California, April 1-5.
Rixon finished in eighth place in the men's slalom. U.S. Ski Team racer Ted Ligety of Park City won the event in 1:37.54. Rixon had the seventh-fastest second run to clock in at 1:40.80. Sun Valley Ski Team alum Sean Higgins was 24th in 1:43.08 and was sixth in the J1 class.
Erik Schlopy won the men's giant slalom in 2:42.33 to beat Boise's Dane Spencer by a second. Rixon was 13th in 2:47.24 and Higgins 33rd in 2:50.16. 69 racers finished.
Daron Rahlves topped teammate Bode Miller (3rd place) by almost a second to win the super G title. Rixon was 42nd.
Women's national title were won by Julia Mancuso in giant slalom, Sarah Schleper in slalom and Bryna McCarty in super G. 16-year old Sun Valley racer Lauren Eder was 42nd in super G and 64th in GS.
In a NorAm downhill on April 1, Rixon was 45th in the men's race, and Eder was 48th in the women's.
