The Community Library in Ketchum is in the process of celebrating its 50th year in existence. Marking the start of the next 50 a new executive director has been hired to take over the helm when current Director, Ollie Cossman retires.

The Board of Directors announced Monday, April 4, that Colleen Daly had accepted the position and will begin work May 1.

Cossman has been with the library for 29 years. She is the fifth director in its history.

"She's wonderful I've known her close to 25 years," Cossman said of Daly. "She's very excited. I think she'll do an excellent job."

Currently publisher of Watson Press, Daly has many ties in the Wood River Valley, including at the Community Library. She worked at the front desk many years ago, under Cossman, and later served for five years on the Board of Directors. She was editor-in-chief and publisher of the Sun Valley Magazine, and was editor of "Cristina's of Sun Valley" by Cristina Ceccatelli Cook; "Found Dogs" and "Second Chances" by Elise Lufkin with photography by Diana Walker, and many books by novelist Ridley Pearson, a part-time valley resident.

Daly is also managing editor of a scholarly journal, Libraries & Culture, published at the School of Information of the University of Texas at Austin.

She has been the editor of other publications, including Appellation-Wine Country Living, The Valley Magazine and Oh! Idaho.

Hailey resident Tom Smith was hired recently as the library's first development director.
