Ride, Slide, Glide

Enjoy the trails at Galena before the season ends

Galena Lodge and its environs, 50k worth of skiable and hikable trails, is winding down a very busy winter.

There are a couple more opportunities to enjoy the historic area this season.

Today, join a Sawtooth National Recreation Area Forest Service ranger for a free snowshoe tour. Learn about the fascinating cultural and natural history of the Wood River Valley and the Galena area. Tours last 1-1/2 to 2 hours, and leave from the Galena Lodge deck at 11 a.m. A complimentary snowshoe pass is available for the day from Galena, and snowshoe rentals are available at the Lodge

The annual Ride, Slide, Glide Relay Race wraps up the season in a festive way on Sunday, April 3, starting at 10 a.m. Costumes are encouraged for the fun filled day of biking, running and skiing on the new snow. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

The three-leg relay race is for co-ed teams and solo competitors. Awards will be given to the top three in all categories. Beverages and lunch will be served on the deck after the race. Participants will need to have a North Valley Trails Pass.

To get to Galena, drive 24 miles north of Ketchum on Highway 75. There are a few landmarks along the way, and a large sign on the right that indicates that you have arrived at the lodge. If you get to the Galena summit, you have gone five miles too far.
