North Series hits the finish line

With Grand Targhee races

Hailey Ski Team J4 racer Delaney Willey posted a couple of technical triumphs last weekend when the Intermountain Division's North Series staged its 2004-05 championships at Grand Targhee Ski Resort.

Willey won Saturday's giant slalom by .33 seconds over J5 teammate Amanda Stelling, then the pair went 1-2 again Sunday in the slalom on Arrowhead ski run—Willey marching away with a five-second win.

Besides the podium gold medals captured by Willey and Stelling, the other podiums gained by Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation and HST racers last weekend were:

J3—Willie Adicoff bronze. J4—Gracie Brown silver, Miles Sweek silver, Nina Hirner bronze and Chase Caulkins bronze. J5—Teagen Palmer bronze and Cole Caulkins bronze.

The two-day race event attracted 51 boys and 40 girls from Idaho and Wyoming, including a relatively small spring-break contingent of 18 from the SVSEF and HST. Here are top placings for those who raced:

Boys: J3—Willie Adicoff 3-GS/6-SL. J4—Miles Sweek 4-GS/2-SL; Chase Caulkins 3-GS/15-SL; Tyler Davis 5-GS/6-SL; Conner Bennett 10-GS/7-SL; and Zachary Israel 12-GS/10-SL. J5—Cole Caulkins 3-GS.

Girls: J3—Molly Duff 8-SL. J4—Delaney Willey 1-GS/1-SL; Gracie Brown 2-GS/4-SL; Nina Hirner 2-SL; Alexi Fitch 6-GS/5-SL; Marly Morgus 8-GS/7-SL; Meghan Duff 9-GS/8-SL. J5—Amanda Stelling 1-GS/1-SL; Teagen Palmer 3-GS; Anne Duff 7-GS/7-SL.
