Resort charge: Freestylers strut their stuff at Junior Olympics in Park City


Sun Valley freestyle racers enjoyed a big week at the 2005 Chevrolet Junior Olympics at Park City, Utah, March 14-20.

USSA hosted the five event series, which included competitions in the traditional disciplines of moguls, dual moguls and aerials, as well as halfpipe and big air.

The field consisted of the top junior competitors from each division across the nation.

Sun Valley Ski Team member Sophia Schwartz won the J3 class in halfpipe and finished fourth overall in the event. Schwartz went on to place ninth in dual moguls, 49th in moguls, and 17th in big air.

Sun Valley teammate Kurtis Fieguth was second in the overall standings with a 9th in dual moguls, 12th in halfpipe, 15th in moguls and 25th in aerials.

Reed Boeger was also consistent across the board with a 19th in halfpipe, 48th in moguls, 21st in aerials and 57th in big air.

Shane Cordeau skied to fourth place in moguls, and another top ten performance was turned in by Kylie Douglas, who finished fifth in moguls and seventh in dual moguls. Also placing in the mogul event were Katie Fieguth (58th) and Britt Van Paepeghem (62nd). Fieguth skied to 17th in dual moguls.
