Jivaro Headhunters, shooting the lights out, built leads of 25 to 30 points and defeated Sawtooth Paint/Soundwave 73-51 in the semi-final game of the 2005 Sutton & Sons men's basketball tournament Tuesday night on the Hailey hardwoods.

The #3-seeded Headhunters (14-3) earned a date with the unbeaten, top-seeded Phoenix Bar & Grill sharpshooters (15-0) for the championship of the 10-team tournament Thursday at The Community Campus gym.

Jivaro's Darrell Tullis pumped in 14 of his game-high 23 points before intermission and the Headhunters extended their 38-27 halftime lead with a big burst early in the second half. Stunned, #2-seeded Sawtooth Paint/Soundwave (13-4) regrouped.

Led by David Morgan (14 points), Sawtooth Paint/Soundwave cut its deficit to 12 points with eight minutes remaining, but Jay Fry (13 points) and Mike Payne (19 points) took over for 2001-03 league champion Jivaro Headhunters and put the game away.

Ron Harrison (two 3-pointers) added 8 points and Erik Lisk 6 for Jivaro Headhunters. For Sawtooth Paint, Jeff Burrell (three 3-balls) led the way with 15 points, Luke Macdonald had 9 and Sean Johnson 8.
