Eder books ticket for nationals

As National J2 GS silver medalist

Sun Valley Ski Team racer Lauren Eder, 16, of Hailey, already considered one of the best 140 ski racers ages 15-19 in the entire country, cracked the top 10 three out of four races during the 2005 Chevrolet Alpine J2 Olympics March 10-13 at Sugarloaf, Maine.

Eder topped out with a giant slalom silver medal, placing second in the women's GS March 13 just .31 seconds off the winning pace of Rocky Mountain racer Katie Hartman, 16, of Breckenridge, Colo.

By placing in the top two, Eder earned an invitation to the 2005 U.S. Alpine National Championships April 1-4 at Mammoth, Ca.

Eder had the fastest first run time in the giant slalom. Super giant slalom gold medalist Hartman, only the seventh-fastest after the first GS run, poured it on and emerged with the GS gold medal out of 46 finishers.

In other races, Eder finished as one of the top combined threats of the J2s with a seventh place in the March 10 downhill, 16th in the March 11 SG on the Narrow Gauge course and sixth in the March 12 slalom won by Lindsay Cone, 16, of Killington, Vt.

At nationals in Mammoth, the men and women run downhill April 2, SG on April 2, slalom on April 3 and giant slalom on April 4-5.
