Town series finishes with fury

The Grateful Shred show off their first place trophy

Costumed racers clad in vintage Bogner one-piece suits and neon getups heeded the end of the Sun Valley Town Series challenge.

The seventh and final race of the season held Wednesday, March 16 brought eighty-nine racers to Bald Mountain. The giant slalom event held on Cozy, challenged the field to finish two runs.

Carl Rixon topped the men's field, narrowly ahead of series rival Robin Sarchett. Jeff Sarchett finished third, followed by Matt Murphy in fourth and Wes Powell in fifth.

The top three women's finishers finished back to back. Erica Whittaker captured the women's title, skiing to 15th overall, and narrowly edging Sonja Mandeville in second and Piper Lloyd in third. Tracy Lee skied to fourth and Annie Stout to fifth.

For his on-slope style, Ben Harwell captured Best Crash of the Day.

The race festivities continued with the award's party hosted by Apple's Bar and Grill.

At the end of the series the Gratefull Shred team, with members Brent Ellis, Tommy Richardson, Randi DuBois and Robert Rudy, found themselves ahead of the pack. The Sturtevants H.C.T team followed in second place and the Apple's crew claimed third.

Officials also fielded the Dream Team with the most consistent racers of the season. Racers qualifying for the honor included Ellis, Richardson, DuBois, Mike Shanks and Robin Sarchett.

In the anticipated season pass giveaway, Lee, Dotty Sarchett, Ken Edwards and Brook Trout, found themselves pass winners.
