Late goal gives Grumpy's the Gund Cup

Senior Hockey League title game

Capping a back-and-forth game, John McGuone took a pass from Brad Stansberry and scored the game-winning goal for Grumpy's Monday night in its 5-3 Gund Cup title game victory over Yoga College of India.

Don Saver tallied two goals while Todd Johnston and Charles Friedman netted the other Grumpy's scores in the championship game. Underdog Yoga rallied from a 2-0 deficit on goals by Clint Lightner, Billy Tryder and Ryan Sullivan.

Yoga goalie Pat Ballou, who played a scintillating game, was screened by three players on McGuone's go-ahead tally.

Grumpy's Pete Prekeges said, "It was a great game. We have six people who have never won a Cup—Dave Stone, Mark Stone, Dave Egnatz, Harry Weekes, John Ellison Jr. and me—so it was nice to get the monkey off our backs. Next year it will be all for fun. Pat Ballou played out of his mind. He was unbelievable."

Regular-season champion Grumpy's/SV Auto Club finished 12-1-0, scoring 78 goals and allowing only 33. Yoga (6-8-0, 60 goals, 78 against) advanced to Monday's title game with a 7-0 rout of #2-seeded Morgan's Fine Finishes (8-4-1) Thursday.

Brad Dredge (2 goals) and Mark Belanger (2) were the big scorers for Yoga Thursday. Dave Hennessy, Dave MacMillan and Brian Minnesota also scored goals for Yoga.
