A plethora of pleasant pastimes for people of all ages

You can be young or old. A carver, a rider or a grinder. It simply does not matter, because there is something for every type of outdoor enthusiast this weekend. Even Ketchum's omnipresent dogs get their day in the sun.

Snowboarders can get their groove on at the two-day Intermountain Snowboard Series event March 5-6 on Baldy.

The Roundhouse RailJam for all ages is Saturday and the halfpipe contest is Sunday. Day-of-race registration occurs from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at Apple's Bar & Grill. USASA membership is required to compete, and the cost is $25 per event plus discount lift ticket. Or, register beforehand at psbt.org. A raffle will be staged after both events.

The series is hosted by the Sun Valley snowboard team will assistance from Smith Sport Optics, The Board Bin, the visual Wize Project and the Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber of Commerce.

The Elephant's Perch in Ketchum will host the Backwards Boulder Mountain Classic Ski Tour on Saturday, March 5. The 30-kilometer tour runs from the Sawtooth National Recreation Headquarters to Galena Lodge. There is no entry fee. Participants will depart from the SNRA parking lot at 10 a.m. Slower skiers can leave from Baker Creek or Prairie Creek at 11 a.m. and meet up with the pack. Skiers should bring appropriate clothing, wax, drinks and snacks. Galena Lodge will host a special lunch for participants for $10.

Man and beast alike are sure to enjoy the 20th annual Paw 'N Pole at the Sun Valley Gun Club Sunday.

This year's event starts at 10 a.m. If you don't have a dog to tote you along, the Animal Shelter is happy to provide one.

This year's theme is "'Paws' and Salute Ketchum's Colorful History!" Come as your favorite Ketchum icon or historical event. Back by popular demand as emcees will be local thespians Claudia McCain and David Blampied. There will be prizes galore, and costumes are encouraged.

Cost of $10 per person or $15 a family includes lunch. Spectators can buy lunch for $5. All proceeds go to the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley.

Also on Sunday, it's the annual Rotarun Slush Cup. The alpine race is for kids 4-under to 14. Race day registration is from 8-9 a.m. at Rotarun Ski Hill west of Hailey. Course inspection runs from 9-9:45 a.m. with racing at 10 a.m. The cost is $15, which includes a lift ticket.
