Bellevue caucus nominates six

A handful of Bellevue residents accepted a citywide invitation to attend the annual nominating caucus for the upcoming election April 4. The gathering Thursday, Feb. 24, at city hall resulted in six candidates accepting nominations for the upcoming General Municipal Election.

City Councilman Jon Anderson accepted the only nomination offered for mayor. The nomination came from Bellevue resident Patty Healey. Anderson is currently serving his second two-year term on the council.

If elected as mayor, Anderson would leave a vacant city council seat. Assuming he is elected, City Clerk Dee Barton explained that Anderson would appoint a person to finish his city council term, who, in turn, must be approved by the council.

In addition to the mayor's seat, three city council terms expire this spring. The seats of council members Tammy Eaton, Vivian Ivie and Eric Allen will be up for election. All three council members signed declarations of candidacy following nominations at the caucus.

All of the nominations came in the first half of the caucus.

The five nominees who accepted nominations as City Council candidates include:

· Eric Allen, incumbent councilman, nominated by Mark Roemer.

· Tammy Eaton, incumbent councilman, nominated by Joanna Ehrmantraut.

· Shaun Mahoney, marketing associate for Sysco Food Service of Idaho, nominated by Chris Koch.

· Vivian Ivie, incumbent councilman, nominated by Joanna Ehrmantraut.

· Chris Koch, current Planning and Zoning commissioner, nominated by Stefany Mahoney.

The caucus serves as a forum for the city to select candidates to serve as mayor and to serve on the city council.

Elected candidates are sworn in May 12.

The election for mayor and city council seats will be held Monday, April 4. On Election Day the polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at Bellevue City Hall.

Absentee ballots are available at City Hall.
