Emergency crews remove the wreckage of a fatal car accident Saturday afternoon on Highway 75 near Friedman Memorial Airport.

Driving with her child in a car seat and a friend in the front passenger seat, Hailey resident Brandi A. Lacroix Fonseca, 24, was killed in a head-on car accident shortly after noon Saturday on Highway 75 near the southern end of the Friedman Memorial Airport runway.

The older of the two passengers, Angela O. Hartley, 20, was transported to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries and released. Fonseca's eight-month-old daughter Alexis Marie, riding in the back of the vehicle, was not transported for injuries.

According to Idaho State Police, Fonseca was southbound when her vehicle, a Mazda Miata, crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound Chevy S10 pickup truck. The pickup driver, Bobette Fehlman, 61, was transported to St. Luke's and then flown to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. She was listed as a patient in fair condition in the orthopedic unit Tuesday evening.

St. Luke's Community Relations Manager Tanya Keim said Fonseca died at St. Luke's.

Fonseca was born Nov. 17, 1980 in Nampa, Idaho. She moved to the Wood River Valley with her mother when she was 5 years old. Fonseca attended schools in the valley. She met her husband, Gustavo Fonseca, in 1999, and the couple was married 2004 in Hailey. She has worked at the Hailey Chevron since last September.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2005 at St. Charles Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Hailey Cemetery.

An obituary appears on Page A16.
