Build a creative cardboard contraption, like an Egyptian mummy, pictured, to race in the Fourth Annual Snow Box Derby.

A piece of cardboard, a little creativity and an inkling for speed are the requirements for unconventional downhill fun. The Blaine County Recreation District and the Rotarun Ski Club host the Fourth Annual Snow Box Derby on Saturday, March 5, at the ski area west of Hailey.

The annual event invites participants to design, construct and race their own cardboard creations at Rotarun Ski Area, west of Hailey. Anyone five years of age and older may participate.

The snow boxes must be constructed using only cardboard, paint, tape and glue. A full list of rules can be obtained at the Recreation District office. All Snow Boxes will be inspected the day of the event.

Age categories include 5 to 8 years, 9to 12 years, 13 to 17 years, 18 and older. The contest also hosts a professional category.

Prizes will be awarded for the fastest run, most creative snow box, best wipe out and more.

The Rec District asks participants to pre-register for the Derby at the office located in the Community Campus in Hailey. The entry fee is $5 per participant and $25 per participant in the professional category.

This year's sponsors include Ruscitto, Latham and Blanton, Smoky Mountain Pizza and Rotarun Ski Club.
