SGs bring 156 racers to Snowbird

Eder wins FIS race at Telluride

Snowbird Ski Resort staged the Trudi Bolinder Memorial super giant slaloms last week, and 156 of the Intermountain Division's best A-J1 through J3 racers took their turns speeding down White Diamonds run.

Sun Valley Ski Team racers Lauren Parsons and Lauren Eder were the only podium finishers among the 46 members of the Sun Valley and Hailey ski teams making the Utah trip for the J1-3 Junior Olympic qualifying event.

J2 runner-up Eder ended up third of 66 finishers Thursday, .87 seconds behind the winner, and J1 champion Parsons was also third overall in Friday's SG, just .32 seconds back. Among the men, J2s Tristan Brown and Corey Bellinger were 5-6 in their class in Thursday's men's SG.

Eder moved to Telluride, Colo. Saturday and placed second overall, the top American, in a women's FIS (International Ski Federation) giant slalom. Eder was only .25 seconds off the winning pace of Rowmark Ski Academy's Chirine Njeim.

The next day, Sunday, the 16-year-old Eder ended up winning the FIS giant slalom at Telluride over former Hailey racer Hailey Duke. The winning margin was .48 seconds.

Monday's slalom victory went to Duke, with Eder ninth. In another local result, Sean Higgins placed 12th in a Telluride FIS giant slalom.
