Rotarun off and running

Snows open Hailey mountain

Rotarun Ski Area west of Hailey opened for the 2004-05 season on New Year's Day by offering a free day of skiing—after a long wait for Mother Nature's nod of approval.

With the copious and persistent snows of the past weekend, the Hailey ski hill quickly opened and president Ron Moore of Hailey was excited with the long-awaited opening.

"Opening weekend was really, really, really great," Moore boasted of the well-attended New Year's debut.

Both the Saturday free ski and the regular $10 flat rate available Sunday drew high attendance with "some of the best conditions people have ever seen out there," said Moore.

Skiers and boarders are also excited about "a warming hut with a snack bar and very reasonable prices serving usual bill of fare," said Moore. Of particular popularity is the recently introduced Philly Cheese Steak, he said.

Rotarun is open every Wednesday and Friday night from 6-9 p.m. and every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a flat rate of $10 for adults and children.

Rotarun will again be hosting its popular youth races this season. The first will be the Arkoosh Cup Feb. 5. The Slush Cup kids' race will be held on March 5 with the Soapbox Derby on the following day, Sunday, March 6.
