New Year's Eve parties lay out the goods

With the Christmas holiday now just a memory, thoughts inevitably turn to New Year's Eve celebrations.

The seniors kick off events early with a New Year's Eve day lunch special of pork roast, black-eyed peas and coconut cake. Transportation is provided. 788-3468. The Senior Connection is located at 721 Third Ave. South in Hailey,

For the youngsters there is a Sun Valley Children and Youth New Year's Celebration from 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Sun Valley Daycare for ages 18 months to 5 years, and in the Continental Room for ages 6-14. There will be entertainment, arcade games, fooseball, a clown, magic show and lots of games. The cost is $50 per child. For reservations call 622-2248.

How about an overnight? The HUB Youth Activity Center hosts a 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. New Year's Eve Lock-In Party for kids in the sixth through 12th grades, in the youth activity center at the Community Campus in Hailey. Activities include movies, games music and art. The cost is $8 for HUB members, $10 for non-members. Pre-register at 788-2117 ext. 222.

Galena Lodge hosts a New Year's Eve dinner at 7 p.m. The rustic and charming Galena Lodge is 23 miles north of Ketchum. For details and reservations call 726-4010.

No celebration is complete without art. The New Year's Eve Twilight Gala Celebration, from 6 to 8 p.m. is being held at the Ochi Gallery in Ketchum. There will be performances by Katherine Edison, Mark Neiwirth and David Neuman of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony Music Conservatory, $50; all proceeds go to SVSSMC. There is limited seating. Maybe the clan is looking for action to kick off the New Year. Well, look no further than the Sun Valley Skating Center where the Sun Valley Suns hockey team takes on the McCall Manchester Mountaineers at 7 p.m. General admission is $6, and $3 for kids.

The parties continue in Sun Valley with two events New Year's Eve. At the Limelight Room in the Sun Valley Inn doors open at 7:45 p.m. with a sit down dinner being served at 8:45 p.m.

Included in the $145 a person price is a complimentary 5x7 portrait, party favors, a magic show and a bottle of champagne per couple. Music and dancing come courtesy of Barry Cole and the Sound of Music, as well as the Paul Tillotson Trio.

Or take your dancing shoes to the Sun Valley Lodge Dining Room. The doors open at 8 p.m. for cocktails and hors d'oeurves. A sit-down dinner is served at 9:15 p.m. The Joe Maccarillo Trio plays. The all-inclusive cost per person is $195 and includes a bottle of champagne per couple. The attire is coat and tie. For details and tickets call 622-2101.

In Ketchum, the Roosevelt Tavern is hosting a New Year's Party, starting at 10 p.m. Music is provided by Muse Inc. with dancing, free champagne at midnight and party favors. Dinner is being served until 10 p.m. Guests who enjoy dinner on the premises pay just $20, or $40 per couple. Otherwise the cover is $25. For more information and dinner reservations call 726-0051.

Whiskey Jacques' has Salt Lake City's Marmalade Hill for a New Year's Eve Extravaganza. The cover is $40 and includes party favors and champagne at midnight.

In Bellevue, the Silver Dollar hosts a shindig with music by Audiophile. The cover is a mere $5 and includes champagne, food and party favors.

In Hailey, the Mint is hosting favorite son bands. Reckless Kelly and Mickey and the Motorcars take turns on stage. Cover is $75 and includes a champagne toast at midnight and breakfast at 1 a.m. There is also a three-course dinner served at 7 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m. $35. To attend both events it's a combined price of $100. For reservations call 788-MINT.
