Richfield turns out the lights on Panthers

Northside Conference hoops

Richfield's performance against Carey Tuesday can be defined by three words: lights out shooting.

Despite taking about 20 shots less than the Panthers, the Tigers posted an unheard of 70 percent completion rate to drop the Panthers 70-37 in a Northside Conference matchup at Richfield.

"I have never seen a team shoot so well as Richfield," Carey coach Hollis Pincock said. "By my figures they shot 70 percent and made 12 of their first 14 shots. It was unbelievable."

Richfield held a commanding lead at every break: 29-8 at the end of one, 46-19 at halftime and 61-25 at the end of the third quarter. The Tigers also dropped in seven three-pointers.

"It seems like everything that went up, went in," Pincock said. "Even when they got fouled and tossed something up it would fall. They just weren't missing anything."

Asked if the Tigers have improved that much since the teams met less than two weeks ago Pincock said no.

"It was just an incredible shooting performance. That's all I can say. We pushed and played hard. They just kept shooting the ball," he said.

Lacey Peterson led the Panthers with 9 points. Whitney Peck scored 8, Brenna Silva 6, Amy Olsen 6, Jessica Royal 3, Melissa Peck 2, Amanda Hill 2, Shannon Roesbery 1.

Silva grabbed 9 rebounds and Peck had 6.

Tiger Brook Norman was the game's leading scorer with 17 points.

Carey (5-5, 1-3 league) played Camas County last night and will entertain The Community School Friday and Clark County of Dubois Saturday for a 5 p.m. varsity contest.
