Get real and lift a heel

Sun Valley Telemark Series race dates set

It's time to put that new calendar to work and mark down the dates for the annual Sun Valley Telemark Series.

This winter marks the 25th season for the series, making it the longest continuously run telemark series in the country. Snowboarders can also compete in the races.

The Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber of Commerce will serve as title sponsor of the series for the 2005 season and have announced six race dates, which are listed below:

2005 Sun Valley Telemark Series

January 8: All Terrain Race, sponsored by Smith Sport Optics

February 11: Rotarun Ripper

February 19: Leif's Race

February 20: Bob Marley Birthday Reggae Race, sponsored by Black Diamond and Scott USA

March 6: Dollar Mountain Race sponsored by Kavu

March 26: Hawaiian Nationals & Tandem Telemark Challenge, sponsored by Backwoods Mountain Sports and Marmot

Proceeds from this year's race series will go to several worthy local organizations, including the Sun Valley Adaptive Sports Program, Galena Backcountry Ski Patrol, Avalanche Hotline, Education for Avalanche Awareness and Expedition Inspiration. Last year the non-profit race series helped raise more than $4,000.

According to race director Danny Walton, race promotion has been extensive this year with posters going up in Salt Lake City and write-ups in national magazines such as Backcountry and Telemark Skier. For more information, contact www.sunvalleytele.org.
