The Sun Valley Ballet School's 2003 Senior Company

Beware shoppers who enter the retail establishments of the Wood River Valley this holiday season. Prepare your eardrums for an assault by an abundance of Christmas music. Yes, it's that time of year again and Christmas shopping without some version of Tchaikovsky's "The Sugar Plum Dance" assailing your lobes just wouldn't feel right.

However, if the slightly tinny versions that undulate from store speakers don't entirely sate your appetite for all things Christmas, then help is at hand. The Sun Valley Ballet School is reprising their hugely successful 2003 production of "The Nutcracker."

This performance marks the final full length ballet performance for five graduating seniors, Elizabeth Pfordte as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Kelly Crabtree as the Snow Queen, Brittany Jones as Spanish Hot Chocolate, Caroline Ellis as Arabian Coffee and Amberle Behr as a maid.

In addition to the students of the School the cast will include professional principal dancer Todd Fox, who will reprise his roles as the Snow King and the Sugar Plum Cavalier.

"The Nutcracker" is the tale of a young girl named Clara who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King. Over the years "The Nutcracker" has transformed into one of the all time classic Christmas traditions. So what better way is there to kick off the holiday season than to catch this beautiful ballet performed by some of Idaho's finest ballet students?

The Sun Valley Ballet School is a nonprofit organization and "The Nutcracker" is one of the School's biggest fundraisers. Offered on both Friday and Saturday evenings are special $50 reserved seats, where $25 of the price is a tax-deductible donation to the school. This special ticket entitles you to complimentary champagne, handmade truffles and a warm Christmas glow.

Performances are Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., Saturday Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. Regular ticket prices, available for all shows, are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
