Snow enthusiasts hungering for a taste of winter will look forward to Friday's film extravaganza. Apple's Bar and Grill brings the Sun Valley Ski and Snowboard Teams' Film Festival to the Warm Springs base area on Friday, Nov. 19. The event features the latest film by Jackson Hole's Teton Gravity Research, affectionately known as TGR.

"This is the third year of Apple's pre-season party. This year we teamed up with TGR to make it bigger and better," said Hank Minor, owner of Apple's.

The party features four showings of TGR's new release "Soul Purpose." Showings are at 3, 5, 7 and 9 p.m. The 9 p.m. show is limited to adults over 21. Ticket sales for the movie will benefit the Sun Valley Ski and Snowboard teams.

The movie travels the globe taking a close look into the driving forces behind athletes' devotion to skiing and snowboarding. Impressive big mountain footage and jumping shots take skiers and riders to remote locales.

"The skiers really do go everywhere from Alaska to Romania," Deb Kay, film tour coordinator, said.

In addition to athletes Jeremy Nobis, Skogen Sprang, Marc-Andre Belliveau and Micah Black, "Soul Purpose" features former Sun Valley skiers Will Burks and Lyndsey Dyer. Burks, a 1999 U.S. Freesking World Tour Champion, takes on big mountains and Dyer concentrates on the steeps of Jackson Hole.

"She makes the big splash. Watch out other pro-women here comes Lyndsey Dyer," Deb Kay, the TGR film tour coordinator, commented.

According to Kay, another highlight of the film features Jeremy Jones being long-lined by helicopter. The long-line takes Jones into a 3000-foot couloir in Italy.

It's these shots and others that have come to distinguish TGR films from other ski movies.

"It's one of the cooler films I've seen to be honest," Minor remarked.

The film also distinguishes itself from other flicks with its authentic soundtrack. Ski movie enthusiasts will appreciate the pairing of musical tracks with footage.

The event couples the movie with a pig roast and prize giveaways. Tickets are $10 and are available at Apple's, Ski Tek and at the door.
