Peewees skate in IHL debut

Weekend games at Provo, Utah

Showing promise and depth, the Sun Valley Peewee youth hockey team went 1-2-1 and scored 13 goals in four season-opening Intermountain Hockey League games Nov. 6-7 in Utah.

The excellent team effort at the Provo arena included a 4-2 victory over the Idaho Falls Eagles, a 6-6 tie with the Provo Predators, plus 9-0 and 6-3 losses to teams from Casper, Wyo. and Ogden, Utah.

Scoring leaders for the Peewees were Danny Sundali (3 goals, 6 assists), Nick Crosby (4 goals, 2 assists) and Anthony Martin (3 goals). Goalie Cody Levitan made some outstanding saves during the weekend.

In Sun Valley?s first game Saturday, the visitors led by Crosby?s two goals grabbed a commanding 5-2 over the Predators?but Provo scored four unanswered goals to take a 6-5 lead with 2:49 left. Martin?s equalizer, from Alexander MacMillan, salvaged the 6-6 tie.

Saturday evening, Sundali (2 goals, 1 assist) sparked Sun Valley to the 4-2 victory over Idaho Falls. The entire defense contributed a strong game. Zak Sjoberg, Charlie Evans, Jonathan Hobbs, Ian Murphy and Davis Hague pitched in and held the Eagles to 13 shots.

Goalie Levitan (45 shots, 36 saves) turned in a strong effort in Sunday?s 9-0 loss to Casper. Levitan was also sturdy in Sunday?s 6-3 setback to the Ogden Junior Wildcats, a game in which the Suns outshot the winners 35-19 but had early-season defensive struggles.
