Playing extremely well as a team, The Community School girls? soccer team drew one step closer to its goal of competing in the state tournament with a dominating 5-0 home win over Buhl Saturday at Sagewillow Farms.

Leading scorer Cassidy Doucette (17 goals) twined a pair of goals as coach Kelly Feldman?s top-seeded Cutthroats (7-3, 4-0 home) handily won their first-round game of the four-team Fourth District 3A tournament.

All the Cutthroats needed was a win over Declo Tuesday afternoon in the district championship game to advance to the State 3A tournament Oct. 28 in Boise. The ?Throats handled Declo 6-0 and 3-1 in the season.

Declo defeated Wendell 2-1 Saturday to reach Tuesday?s final. With a win over Declo Tuesday, the Cutthroats would have earned their sixth state tournament trip including last year?s best-ever 11-4-2 record and third-place finish in the 3A state meet.

?It was a great way to start the tournament,? said Feldman about Saturday?s home success over Buhl. ?We put together the game we wanted?we controlled the midfield and played smart ball. It was a tough, physical game. Buhl has really come along. We are happy to have the win.?

Sara Berman rebounded a Doucette shot for an early 1-0 lead. Senior co-captain Doucette buried a penalty at eight minutes for a 2-0 cushion. Doucette was awarded another PK at 21 minutes but shot wide. At 32 minutes, Doucette deflected home Ross Mills? corner kick for a 3-0 Sun Valley lead at half-time.

Coaches Feldman and Carolina Stevens went to their bench liberally in the second half and everybody got a chance to play. Krista Detwiler?s chip shot made it 4-0 and senior co-captain Lexie Praggastis drilled a PK at 64 minutes, after Doucette was taken down in the box.

Sharing the goalkeeping were Oey Parker and Jean Montgomery.

Other Cutthroat players with a role were Lexie duPont, McKenna Peterson, Caitlin Enright, senior co-captain Gussi Ochi, Mandy Alexander, Katie Rothgeb, Chloe Lynn, Cristina Walsworth, Gabby Sisson, Devyn Parnes, Cody Curran, Rian Ervin, Jessie Curran, Corinna Pidgeon, Emily Eshman, Hannah Hennessy and Sarah Adicoff.
