Following a nationwide trend of slowly escalating lift-ticket prices, Sun Valley Resort has announced that a full-day, adult lift ticket during peak season this winter will cost $67, $1 more than last year.

While the price might seem steep to some, it remains lower than those at several well-known mountain resorts in Colorado.

Aspen Skiing Co., which controls four lift-served mountains around Aspen, Colo., last year raised its full-day, adult lift-ticket price from $68 to $72. This year, the same ticket will cost $74.

At Breckenridge, Colo., a high-season full-day ticket this winter will cost $71.

Yet, with competition abounding in the Western ski industry, many resorts are offering discounts and fewer and fewer skiers and snowboarders are paying the premium price for a full-day lift ticket.

Tuning in to that trend as well, Sun Valley Co. through Oct. 17 is offering discounts on several popular mountain passes and two new lift-ticket packages.

Sales of lift passes for the upcoming 2004-2005 ski season will commence on Monday, Oct. 4, at Sun Valley?s main ticket office in River Run Lodge.

Adult season passes will be sold this year for $1,850 each, a $25 increase from the 2003-2004 season-pass price. However, if purchased before Oct. 17, the passes will be sold at a $100 discount, for $1,750 each.

The resort?s popular 20/20 ski pass?a package that permits 20 days of peak-season skiing and 20 days of combined early- and late-season skiing?will be sold for $825 each, the same price as last year. 20/20 passes will also be sold with a $100 discount through Oct. 17, reducing the cost to $725 each.

The Alpine/Nordic season pass?which allows full access to Sun Valley?s alpine ski mountains and Nordic ski facilities?will sell this year for $2,000, $25 more than last year. It will also be discounted $100 through Oct. 17.

Other passes available for purchase starting Oct. 4 include:

· Student season pass: $350
· Dollar Mountain adult season pass: $200
· Dollar Mountain child season pass: $100
· Season discount pass: $150 (not available after Dec. 19)
· Weekend discount card: $40

In addition, Sun Valley has introduced two new passes that will go on sale next week.

Priced at $1,200, the ?20/20 Unlimited Pass? will permit ski-lift access at Sun Valley for any 20 days in the early and late seasons plus any 20 days during the peak season, which starts on Dec. 20 and runs through April 2. The pass will not be subject to blackout dates during winter holidays or restrictions that limit the number of days per week it can be used.

Priced at $119, the ?Early-Late Season Pass? permits unrestricted mountain access during Sun Valley?s designated early and late seasons.

Sun Valley?s Bald Mountain is scheduled to open for skiing on Nov. 25, Thanksgiving Day. Early season is scheduled to last through Dec. 19, while the resort?s late season is set to last from April 3 to the final day of skiing?typically in late April.
