Senior Connection hosts ?Olympic? health fair Friday

The Senior Connection is gearing up for a Health and Fitness Fair on Friday with an Olympic flair.

?Reach for the gold in your life,? said Brenda Shappee, director of the Senior Connection, located in Hailey. ?The center is excited to be offering more services and programs than ever before.?

The fair is designed to help seniors check up on current health and begin to iron out any health concerns, Shappee said,

?We want everyone in the community to understand that we are the total resource for senior programs, services and information,? Shappee said. The fair is not only about testing, however. There will also be door prizes and other giveaways.

In addition to a number of health screenings, there will be food and the Boulder Brothers will be performing live ditties over the lunch hour. The fair runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and everyone is welcome. Family and friends, including out of area family that people feel may have health concerns are also invited to attend.

The fair is primarily for seniors but it is also open to friends and families of seniors. It is a good time to come to the center and meet the staff and other participants, Shappee said.

Testing will include hearing tests, mammograms, blood pressure checks, oximetry tests, foot screens, glaucoma checks and cholesterol screenings.

Those interested in a cholesterol screening are asked not to eat any food after midnight on Thursday. Drinking water is okay. All the screenings begin at 9 a.m. and run through early afternoon.

The Boston Eye Clinic will be present to give the glaucoma screenings.

?One of the biggest things will be able to do is help people with their Medicare cards if they need assistance and haven?t gotten them yet,? Shappee said. ?A dollar saved is a dollar earned.?
