Sun Valley City Councilman Blair Boand this month settled a driving-under-the-influence case brought against him by the Ketchum Police Department.
Frederick Allington, Ketchum prosecuting attorney, said this week that Boand was given a standard penalty for a first-offense DUI charge brought pursuant to a July incident in Sun Valley.
However, as a condition of Boand?s agreement, the DUI charge can eventually be ?disposed? if Boand adheres to the terms of the settlement and does not commit any new violations, Allington said.
The incident that led to the charge occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. Saturday, July 24, said Ketchum Police Sgt. Nathan Taylor.
Boand was pulled over and arrested by Ketchum Police near the corner of Highway 75 and Elkhorn Road after he was observed ?swerving inside of his lane,? Taylor said.
After Boand failed a field-sobriety test and declined to take a breath test for blood-alcohol content, he was arrested and charged with DUI and ?refusal? to take the breath test, Taylor said.
The Sun Valley Police Department allowed KPD to handle the matter because Boand is a Sun Valley elected official and a conflict of interest might be perceived, Taylor said.
?It was pure bad judgment,? Boand said Tuesday, Sept. 28. ?I?ve never had a DUI. I?d like just to move on and put it behind me.?
