?Well done? for Cutthroat boys

In 2-1 home win over Beavers

Saying ?well done,? to his Community School boys? varsity soccer team is how coach Richard Whitelaw celebrated the end of Saturday?s 2-1 home victory over the visiting American Falls Beavers at Browning Field.

Whitelaw saluted red-shirted American Falls with the same accolade at the conclusion of the well-played, back-and-forth non-conference battle.

?It was an exciting game,? said Whitelaw, having lamented Friday?s 0-0 league tie at Declo. ?But it was also good to be home on a field where we have lost only one game in four years. It gives the team a lift, and we can use the width of the field more.?

Leading Cutthroat scorer Bobby Flanigan (11 goals) scored the first goal midway through the first half, then the home team made it 2-0 at the 58-minute mark on a play started at midfield by junior Kevin Wade.

Wade knocked it ahead to Reed Boeger, who busted through two Beaver defenders and sent a through ball over on the right wing to Max Danielson. Danielson hammered home his second goal for a 2-0 lead.

Beaver sophomore forward Josue Cabrera, who nearly equaled skilled dribbler Bobby Flanigan in the shifty skills department, put a pass ahead to senior forward Eric Martinez. He scored at 70 minutes for a 2-1 game.

That?s how it stayed, because Cutthroat goalkeeper Regan O?Reilly made a great save on Rafa Villa?s challenging line drive at 77 minutes. Sophomore O?Reilly made several big saves during the course of the game. Boeger and Ross Campbell chipped in with excellent defensive stops.

?Man of the Match,? for Sun Valley was junior wing Wes Flanigan.

?We played a lot better than yesterday?s debacle at Declo,? said Whitelaw. ?We were lucky down there?we could have lost.?

But the Cutthroats didn?t lose, they tied 0-0, and improved their league record to 6-1-1 with just two league games to play against Filer and Wendell in the weeks ahead.

The ?Man of the Match? at Declo was junior defender Ross Campbell.

The outcome stretched the current Cutthroat unbeaten streak to four games and improved the team?s overall record to 7-1-1, while American Falls dropped to 4-2-1 midway through the 2004 Idaho prep soccer season.
