Wood River wraps up season at Area C tournament

The Wood River Wranglers bowed out of the Area C American Legion tournament with a 2-2 record.

For first-year coach Eli Lloyd it was both a gratifying and frustrating end to the season.

?All things considered we had a pretty good effort. It was a little dis-appointing considering the talent we put out there. Given the fact that the #2 seed Buhl went out in two games, our effort was notable. My overall impression is we could have gone farther and we will be hungry next year.?

The Wranglers (18-11-1) were eliminated from contention on Thurs-day, after a 6-2 loss to Blackfoot.

Wood River opened with a two-run first but was held hitless and scoreless by the Blackfoot pitcher over the next six frames.

Earlier that day, Wood River de-feated Shelley 5-2. Billy Kramer scored two runs. Designated hitter Dylan Fullmer was on fire with a pair of doubles and a single. Tyler Theide belted two singles and scored one run. Morgan Uhrig and Ben Molyneux also had a hit and run each. Pitcher Huston Brashears tossed a complete game four-hitter.

In earlier contests, Wood River defeated Idaho Falls 4-2 and fell to Marsh Falls 7-5.

?I felt we were in an ideal situa-tion going against Marsh Falls. We beat them the last time we played at their place and we beat them without our best guy. This time we had our best guy,? Lloyd said.

Tied 5-5 Marsh Falls scored the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning and shut Hailey down in the seventh to notch the win.

Upper Valley won the Area C title with a victory over Marsh Falls. In the consolation contest, Marsh Falls secured a trip to the State Class A tournament in Pocatello by thumping Blackfoot, 17-4.

Lloyd summed up the season with, ?Pitching-wise we were solid all year. We had a lot of complete games and a lot of heart. I think we did not have consistent execution both offensively and defensively during the season, but the talent is there. There is a lot of talent to build on.?
