The test of both worlds

Wood River wins, loses at Twin Falls

The Wood River volleyball team experienced the joy of a win and the disappointment of a loss in tri-match action at Twin Falls Thursday night.

In their opening match, the Wolverines (3-2) dispatched Pocatello 25-19, 25-12. Syringa Stark had a solid across the board performance with 5 blocks, 4 kills and 4 aces. Hannah Richards dished out 6 assists and 3 kills. She also went to the service line 13 times.

The host Bruins proved to be a tougher nut to crack. Tied 23-23 in the opening game, Twin Falls posted the final two points to win 25-23.

The Wolverines went on an 8-1 run in the second game and led 24-21 before the Bruins came back to win 27-25.

?We had four or five swings for the game,? coach Tim Richards said. ?We?re just a young team learning how to do it.?

Hannah Richards collected 7 assists and 4 kills against Twin. Stark had 6 kills and Jamie Stone 5. Rachael Richards had 5 assists.

Wood River had another shot at the Bruins in tri-match action in Hailey last night against Twin and Gooding, and
will host a 12-team, two-day varsity tournament this Friday (5:30 p.m.) and Saturday (8:30 a.m.) at the high school.

Participating teams include Hillcrest, Kuna, Skyview, Madison, Middleton, Weiser, Blackfoot, Mountain Home, Gooding, Borah, and Filer.

The Wood River junior varsity spikers went 6-0 to win their home tournament Saturday.

In a field of eight, the Wolverines defeated Jerome, Twin Falls and Kimberly in pool play and Filer and Glenns Ferry in the playoffs. Wood River claimed the title by beating Kimberly for the second time.

?It was a good tournament for them,? Richards commented.
