All in all it was a good week on the pitch for The Community School boys? soccer team.

Richard Whitelaw?s lads picked up a pair of league wins over Declo and Filer, but suffered its first-ever loss to Wendell.

Whitelaw?s typical sang froid was evident after Monday?s 1-0 loss to the Trojans.

?Hey, they were the better team. In the long run it might be good for us.?

In Monday?s match at Wendell, the Trojans scored in the first half and held off the Cutthroats the remainder of the game.

?Travis Stone hit the crossbar and Bobby Flanigan had a couple of good chances against the keeper,? Whitelaw remarked.

Stone was named Man of the Match.

Playing at home on Friday and Saturday, the Cutthroats (4-1) knocked off Declo 4-0 and Bliss 8-1.

Whitelaw assessed, ?We are playing a lot better than I expected for our inexperience. We have a very enthusiastic group this year.?

The Cutthroats played three sets of brothers against the Hornets: Bobby and Wes Flanigan, Ross and Ryon Campbell, and Connor and Kevin Wade.

Bobby Flanigan scored two goals, including a penalty kick.

His second score came on a nifty cutback against the grain, and placing a left-footed shot in the upper right corner.

Travis Stone also collected two goals. Stone ran on to a 50-50 ball by Caleb Sonneland in front of the net and scored on the surprised goalkeeper as Stone seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

In the second half, Ketchum/Sun Valley outshot Declo 10-2 and put seven shots on net.

Cutthroat keeper Regan O?Reilly made two fine saves, including a great deflection on a point-blank riser that would have been a sure goal.

Sweeper Reed Boeger was named Man of the Match for the second time this season.

Home to Filer Saturday, The Community School had four players score their first-ever varsity goals, including Connor Brown (2), Wes Flanigan, Caleb Sonneland and Alden Remington. Bobby Flanigan twined two goals and Travis Stone chipped in one.

Connor Wade and Connor Brown shared Man of the Match honors.

The Community School is home to Bliss on Friday, Sept. 17 and Buhl, Monday, Sept. 20. If earlier results are any indication both games should be hard-fought. In the first week of the season, Sun Valley blanked Bliss 2-0 and Buhl 1-0.
