Sprint triathlon coming up

Entry deadline is Monday

This is absolutely the final year of the Sun Valley Sprint Triathlon, according to Bill Cantrell and the staff at Sun Valley Athletic Club.

The 19th annual entry-level 18-mile triathlon sponsored by Sun Valley Athletic Club (726-3664) has been planned for Saturday and Sunday, July 10-11 in Sun Valley.

Sign up deadline is Monday, July 5 for the 0.5-mile swim, 13.2-mile bicycle ride and 4-mile run. Cost is $30 individuals, or $60 teams, with discounts for 19-and-under. Late entries after July 5 will mean an additional charge.

There will be individual competition for men and women, plus team classes in men’s, women’s, mixed, family and 19-and-under.

Ketchum’s Grant Folske, 27, is the two-time defending champion of the Sun Valley Sprint Triathlon. He was timed in 1.10:43 last July. Last year’s women’s winner was Boise’s Allison Hingtgen in 1.25:15. She edged Nicole Brown (1.26:05).

Besides the 46 individuals last July, there were 18 teams for a total of 98 participants.
