Every
so often one of Idaho’s best-known bands makes it home from Texas, stamping
the valley’s nightlife with the fervor of Idaho outlaws.
Reckless Kelly rocks Ketchum along with his brothers.
Both Reckless Kelly and Micky
and the Motorcars return to play at Ketchum’s Whiskey Jacques’ Wednesday, June
2.
Both bands include Braun brothers,
Willie and Cody in Reckless Kelly and Micky and Gary in Micky and the Motorcars.
Before the Idaho boys return,
Whiskey Jacques’ will host the seven-piece bluegrass band Purdymouth, Friday
and Saturday, May 28 and 29, to celebrate the reopening of the Ketchum saloon
after remodeling.
Wednesday’s bands, Reckless
Kelly and Micky and the Motorcars, are now based out of Austin, Texas, but the
band members’ hearts continue to linger in Idaho. Born and bred in Stanley,
the Braun brothers began their careers with their father Muzzie, singing down
home country music. The boys have since grown up and are driving forces in the
Texas music industry.
Reckless Kelly, led by brothers
Willy and Cody Braun, jam country rock-laced performances. The group is quickly
gaining national attention after being named by the Austin Chronicle as the
"Best Roots Rock Band" three years in a row. In addition, the group
performed in London in April, and earned recognition for "The 20 Best Albums
You Might Have Missed in 2003" from Country Music Television for "Under
the Table and Above the Sun."
Micky and the Motorcars will
add more Braun force to the show throughout the evening.
All shows start at 10 p.m. Both
bands play in Boise at the Big Easy on June 3, and June 4 they play in Twin
Falls at the Western Days event in the City Park.
They will be back in the valley
in August to play in Hailey at the Northern Rockies Folk Festival Friday and
Saturday, Aug. 6 and 7, and then return to their old stomping grounds for the
Braun Brothers Reunion Saturday, Aug. 14, in Challis.
