Cutthroat reels in state berth

The Community School golf team saved the best for last.

In the seven-team 2A district meet at Twin Falls Municipal Tuesday, the Cutthroats claimed fifth place with a 356, their lowest score of the season by six strokes.

"It was our best outing yet," coach Harry Weekes remarked. "I thought the team played pretty well and the kids were happy with it."

Freshmen Christian Cairncross tied for sixth place with an 80 and qualified for the 1A/2A state meet in Orofino, Idaho May 17-18.

"He felt pretty good going through," Weekes said.

The medalist was Kevin Oden of Wendell with a six-over par 74. Teammate Jysen Lancaster and Chris Laib of Glenns Ferry both shot 76 to tie for second place. Trojan Jessie Lancaster won the girls’ title with an 81.

The top three boys’ teams were Wendell (312), Glenns Ferry (320) and Magic Valley Christian (340) and all punched tickets to the state tilt. The top two girls’ squads were Glenns Ferry (408) and Valley (474).

Also teeing it up for the Cutthroats were Reed Boeger (80), Regan O’Reilly (90), Bobby Peterson (98), Bobby Flanigan (108) and Rachael Becker (144).

"It has been a wonderful season because everyone is still having fun. People are getting better and better and that is exciting," Weekes said.
