Hailey teams ready for district playoffs


Home is the place to be for the Wood River ball teams set to host first-round district games today.

Coach Lars Hovey’s top-seeded Wood River baseball squad (20-3, 5-1 SCIC) will open the four-team double elimination tourney today, Friday, May 7 with a 5 p.m. home game against the winless Kimberly Bulldogs at Founders Field.

Wood River, reigning State 3A champion, is targeting its third straight district championship and fifth in six years. Second-seeded Filer and third-seeded Buhl will also clash Friday, the winner visiting Hailey Saturday for the 11 a.m. semi-final at Founders Field.

The championship game is slated for Tuesday, May 11 at 5 p.m.

Chris Cey’s Wolverine softball squad (10-10) entertains the third-seeded Declo Hornets, 5 p.m. at the South Valley Sports Complex. #1 Buhl plays the winner of Filer—Kimberly. The first winner and loser bracket games are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The tournament championship is Wednesday, May 12.

The Wolverine golf team takes out the clubs for a six-team district meet at Burley today. Tee time is 9:30 a.m.
