Swimmers back on the long
course
At Boise’s Spring Fling
Ten SV5B swimmers tackled their
first long course meters event of the season this past weekend in Boise.
The 2004 Spring Fling Invitational was staged for 350 athletes from four
states at the Boise YMCA.
Leading the way in the Girls’
Senior competition (ages 15-and-up) were SV5B stalwart swimmers Michele
Lowry, 17, and Amanda Harris, 16.
Lowry nailed first place in the
400 free, 400 IM and was second in 50 back, 100 back, 200 back and 200
IM. Harris claimed second place in 200 free, and was third in 50 back,
50 free, 100 back and 200 back.
The two outstanding swimmers were
at the wall for fourth and fifth place in the 100 free, with Harris
touching first.
In the Boys’ Senior competition,
Ray Bryson, 15, swam for a best finish of third place in the 50 back.
Ben Parker, 16, finished best with 10th in 50 fly.
Among the older swimmers,
17-year-old Katie Bryson boasted five top-ten placings topped by fourth
in the 200 breast. Chloa Fuller, 18, swam for fifth place in 50 back.
Here are the best placings of the
other SV5B swimmers:
Melissa Becker and Esther
Williams, both 12, placed respectably in a packed age group of over 50
swimmers. Becker’s best was 11th in 400 free, while Williams had 15th in
200 free.
Racheal McGinnis clocked her best
time of 5:15.56 for third place in 400 free. She added five other
top-ten finishes. Rachael Becker was seventh 200 breast.
Junior/Senior All-Stars
SV5B teammates Amanda Harris, 16,
and Racheal McGinnis, 15, have been chosen by the Snake River Swimming
Association to compete in the Inland Northwest Challenge and attend the
USA Swimming Symposium May 15 at Whitworth Pool in Spokane, Wash.
Based on performance and meet
times, eight athletes were selected in each age group to comprise the
Snake River Association’s All-Star squad.
